As obvious at it may seems, it’s still important to remind you that a business card should contain strictly professional information.
Having business cards is a professional way to leave your mark everywhere you go.
Nowadays, companies are collecting fewer resumes thanks to the popularity of online recruitment. In a networking environment it is become increasingly rare and less convenient to submit a resume. The business card is a convenient and discreet way to expand your network.
What should be included on your business cards?
- First name followed by last name
- Education level (B.A., M.B.A., etc ...)
- Professional Organization ( CA, CGA, etc ...)
- Phone Numbers (make sure they are the one with voice mail)
- Email addresses
- The first letter of each line must be capitalized.
- Leave the back of the card blank for taking notes.
- No punctuation at the end of a line (avoid sentences at all cost)
- Do not insert your logo if you’re looking for a job. Doing so will let potential employers to believe that you are member.

- Include in the form of short keywords your areas of interest, specialization or expertise:
The term used to define this information depends on your level of education and experience. For example, an inexperienced Bachelor graduate would use “areas of interest”, while someone with several years of experience or who hold a higher education degree might be using "Fields of specialization" or "Field of expertise”.

The following steps will help you realize how simple and inexpensive it is to create your own business cards.
Steps to designing your business card
- Purchase a pack of printable cards in any office supply store (cost is around $10).
- Open Microsoft Word, and follow the steps detailed below to design your customizable card template:
a) In the "Tools" menu:
• select "Letters and Mailings" then "Envelopes and Labels"
b) In the "Label" tab
• Click the Options button.
In the "Label Options":
• Select the card code inscribed on the pack you’ve just purchased;
• If your code does not appear in the box, click on "Description" to manually enter the dimensions of your cards;
• Click on "New Document".
d) Use all of Word layout functions in order to be able to design an original business cards model while respecting the basic principles outlined earlier. Simply design your model in the first box of the grid and then copy it in the other cells of the grid. - Before you run to the print shop, do a test on a white sheet and layer it on top of an actual business card. Looking at the light, you can confirm whether the writings are well aligned with the spaces of maps. If they are not, you have probably selected the wrong card code in step 2 b).
- After a few adjustments, if necessary, you're ready to print your custom business cards.
